James Frederick Thomas died in Cornwall early in 1925.

He received his technical training at the Camborne School of Mines and Redruth, and took honours at the City and Guilds examinations in ore-dressing and kindred subjects. He was articled in 1892 to Mr. N. Trestrail, consulting engineer to various mines in the West of England.

On completion of his training he went to South Africa in 1896, and joined the staff of the Ferreira Gold Mining Co., Ltd. Owing to ill health he had to resign his position as manager of the Ginsberg Gold Mining Co., Ltd., in 1910, and returned to Cornwall, where he engaged in mining and remained until his death.

Mr. Thomas was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1904, and was transferred to Membership in 1912.
