Chester John Wilton died in Australia on 30th December, 1963.
Mr Wilton gained the Associateship of Camborne School of Mines in 1929 and then spent six months at South Crofty mine. In 1930 he was appointed assistant mining engineer with Kanbauk Mining Co., Ltd., Burma, and later that year took up a similar position with Anglo-Burma Tin Co., Ltd. He remained with the company until the evacuation of the property in 1942, at which time he held the position of senior mining assistant.
In 1945 Mr. Wilton was released from the Army — with the rank of captain — to join the Mining Inspection Committee set up to investigate the state of the mines in Burma. In 1946 he rejoined Anglo-Burma Tin Co., Ltd., as mine manager, remaining with the company in Burma until 1960. He also served on the board of Anglo-Burma Tin Co. (1956), Ltd., from its incorporation. On his retirement he returned to the United Kingdom, but shortly before his death had arrived in Australia where he had intended to settle.
He was elected to Associate Membership of the Institution in 1945.
