John Rex Williams died in September, 1950, at the age of 23 as the result of a motorcycling accident when returning to Cornwall.

He was educated at Redruth County Grammar School from 1939 to 1945 and then entered the School of Metalliferous Mining (Cornwall), gaining the Associateship of the School in 1948. He went to Southern Nigeria in September of that year for Mines Development Syndicate, Ltd., and in April, 1950, took up the appointment of mining assistant with the Indian Copper Corporation, Ltd., Ghatsila. He returned to England after four months, and was employed by New Consols Mines, Ltd., in Cornwall, at the time of his death.

Mr. Williams was elected a Student of the Institution last year.
