Percy Neil Whitehead was killed in action in France on March 2nd 1918, whilst serving as Captain in the Royal Engineers. He joined the Army in the autumn of 1915, and in August, 1916, was awarded the Military Cross, his promotion to the rank of Captain following a month later.

He was 29 years of age at the time of his death and had been educated at Charterhouse and Cambridge. On leaving the University in 1910, he went to Camborne School of Mines where he completed his course of training as a mining engineer in 1913.

Mr. Whitehead was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1913.
