William Duncan Williamson died in New South Wales on December 28th, 1912, aged 40.

He received his metallurgical education at the Glasgow Technical College, and after holding posts in Glasgow and London was engaged in metallurgical work in Mexico for three years. From 1897 to 1902 he was manager and metallurgist to the Big Reef Reduction Works, North Queensland, leaving there to become metallurgist to a gold mining company in Italy in 1903 and 1904. From the latter year to the date of his death he was metallurgist to the Mount Boppy Gold Mining Co., New South Wales.

Mr. Williamson was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1902, and was transferred to Membership in 1906.
